Scriptwriting remains one of the hardest jobs to succeed in, with writers always waiting to get their ‘big break’ into the industry. However, with so many scriptwriting hopeful’s worldwide the market is extremely competitive.
So, to give would-be writer’s a helping hand, here’s a list of current and upcoming scriptwriting opportunities, jobs and competitions…
- BBC Comedy Sript Room
The BBC open two submission windows a year and the comedy Script Room opens from 17th April to 15th May 2017. The Drama Script Room attracted over 4000 applicants so this will be a very tough competition. The BBC script readers guarante that they will read ten pages of every screenplay submitted – whether it be radio, TV or film. And this year, for the first time, they are allowing the writer to choose which ten pages best showecases your writers’ comic voice.

2. 4Screenwriting – 4 Talent (reopening in September 2017)
4screenwriting is run by script-guru Philip Shelley, and offers 12 writers new to television drama an insight into how the industry works.
The purpose of the course is to offer 12 writers new to television drama an insight into how the industry works and to provide a “dry-run” of what it can be like to write under a television drama commission, specifically for one hour series and serial drama, and to work with them as they write an original drama script.
Each writer will be assigned a script editor, who is currently working in the industry, to guide them through this process.

3. Assistant Script Editor – BBC
The BBC are currently looking for an assistant script editor for Doctor Who, based in Cardiff. The Assistant Script Editor reports to the Co-Executive Producer, and works to the Series Script Editor and Script Editor to provide editorial, administrative and research support to the team.

4. Story Producer – BBC
The BBC are currently recruiting a Story Producer to work with executives and writers for Holby City, based in Elstree.
Working alongside the Series Producer and Executive Producer, you will develop the strategic story direction of the programme in line with the editorial vision. You will develop storylines alongside writers and editorial team in line with BBC Editorial guidelines and compliance, ensuring that they reflect the diversity of British society. To lead storylining sessions with lead and core writers, liaising with the scheduling team to ensure plotted storylines work in scheduling terms.
